my fairy tale come true

Second try

We did it once, and we were quite successful.  Then we had a moment of panic and went back to the old habits.  But we have done it again.  We have taken away Kennedy's "eecee" (her soother).

In September after many trips back and forth to the cottage and shuffling around, we decided that it was time to take Kennedy's soother away.  The soother, which she calls her eecee, was something that she only had in the car or in the crib.  We felt good about our decision and we were thrilled when the transition went so smoothly.

Fast forward a month and all of a sudden we had a little girl sucking her thumb in order to go to sleep.  With the fear of having a teenager still sucking her thumb, we decided to give her back the soother, with the thought that you can always take a soother away, but you can't take away a kids thumb.

She instantly fell back in love with the soother.  She was thrilled to have one (actually, quite often there were two or three in the crib at night for the times when it fell out between the bars).  Mommy and daddy were okay with it too as she only got her soother at specific times.

However, we started to wonder when it really was time to be done with it.  So last night mommy decided that it was the night to say bye bye.  We took the soothers to the living room and gave one to her baby and one to Elmo, then off to bed we went.  After a longer than normal amount of time to fall asleep (and lots of tears), she finally crashed.... and we didn't hear from her again until 7am.  Night one was a success!

I sit here typing this as I watch her playing in her crib for our first nap.  Although she isn't asleep yet - there has been no crying.  Knock on wood.
